Empowering Women in Real Estate: Sue Yannaccone Takes a Stand

Anywhere Brands and Anywhere Advisors President & CEO Sue Yannaccone served as a recent guest on the “What Moves Her” podcast, joining hosts Sherry Chris and Lindsay Listanski to discuss how she – and Anywhere as a whole – is standing up for women in real estate, especially after prominent allegations of harassment in the industry this year.

Recorded in the wake of allegations against a high-profile industry leader in late 2023, Sue discussed her decision to take a public stand on behalf of women across the real estate arena, as well as the importance of working for an organization that stood behind her in doing so.

“What was so impactful was the support that I had from Anywhere and from the leadership team here, because I will say while it is my words and my voice, it was supported by everyone in this organization and the team. That was really important to me,” she said. ”I was just proud to be able to use whatever platform I have to be able to speak on behalf of everyone that makes up this industry, that we need to be better, do better, demand better.”

Later in the conversation, Sue – who was recently named the most powerful female executive in real estate for a second straight year – expounded on how businesses will be judged not by the many lofty diversity and gender equity promises they have offered in recent years, but in the tangible action they take to follow through.

“Whether it be from a gender perspective or any others, we have to start with acknowledging that we don’t have all the answers and that we have to have the difficult conversations and we have to leverage our resources to learn and then implement,” she said. “If you don’t have the right accountability behind the written word, it doesn’t matter. If people are not being held accountable to upholding a code of ethics, what good is the code of ethics? And I think that’s where it’s so critical that we work together to understand how to take appropriate action.”
