From Mentorship to Leadership: Lessons from Sherry Chris

Anywhere is proud to claim many of real estate’s most revered and accomplished leaders as part of its diverse roster of executives – including some of the industry’s top trailblazing women.

With this in mind, What Moves Her – founded by Anywhere executive Sue Yannaccone – recently launched its podcast series, which offers a regular spotlight to these women and other company leaders to shed light on the professional and personal lessons that have fueled their growth and molded them into the successful executives they are today.

The podcast’s first episode featured Anywhere Brands Executive Advisor Sherry Chris, who detailed her illustrious career in real estate and her advice on a wide variety of topics – from finding and taking advantage of mentor relationships, taking risks, and how the mark of a true leader is one who is unafraid of deferring to true experts in certain areas of business.

“One thing I’ve found that really works for me is surrounding yourself with people who are better than you at certain things,” she said. “You have to have the courage to surround yourself with people who are smarter, people are better marketers, people who are better operationally. It’s that team that really helps move you forward in business, and in your personal life as well.”

Later in the episode, Sherry also shared her perspective on mentorship and how leaders with humility are best equipped to build strong, successful teams.

“Whatever the opportunity is to let a team member shine, I will push them forward. Because another secret that I will share is having confidence in yourself, and so I’m not jealous or worried that’s somebody’s going to outshine me, because I know who I am,” she said. “There’s no better feeling than to have one of my employees or a colleague up on stage doing great things, where I know that I’ve helped make that happen. That to me is very rewarding.”
